Dental Monitoring is an intelligent and comprehensive mobile application that allows your dental professionals to remotely monitor your treatment progress and dental health via photos and videos that you take and send in yourself – from anywhere in the world.
We monitor the photos and videos as you send them in, providing you with feedback and guidance directly through the app for ultimate convenience.
At FY Smile, we know that your dental or orthodontic treatment requires constant monitoring; our dedication to the successful outcome of your treatment does not stop the moment you walk out the door.
Using Dental Monitoring, you will be asked to take and send photos of your mouth, allowing us to remotely monitor your treatment progress. This eliminates the chance for disconnect between visits and helps ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned without the need for physical visits to our Double Bay dental office.
With the use of Dental Monitoring, being tethered to frequent in-office dental and orthodontic appointments is a thing of the past. You now have the ability to keep your dental professionals updated on the status of your oral health and treatment without causing a disruption to your daily tasks and activities.
How Does Dental Monitoring Work?
To begin the process, you will be asked to download the Dental Monitoring mobile application to your smartphone. We will walk you through this process to ensure that you have everything set up correctly.
You will be given a ScanBox pro; this tool is an essential part of the Dental Monitoring process that will allow you to successfully take professional-grade images of your mouth at home. You will also be given your very own set of cheek retractors, which will help ensure that the entirety of the teeth and gums are easily visible in the photos and videos you send in through the app.
During your appointment, we will help you set up an account with Dental Monitoring while you are here in the office with us. We will also provide you with detailed instructions on how to navigate the app and use the equipment you have been given. Any questions or concerns you may have will be discussed and answered to ensure that you are completely comfortable using the mobile application on your own at home.
In the case that you have a few questions once it comes time to use the application at home, no worries; we are always just a phone call away.
To take the images and videos outside of the office, simply place the cheek retractors in your mouth to retract the cheeks and reveal your teeth and gums. Next, place your phone inside the ScanBox. The ScanBox actually clicks into place over the cheek retractors; once you hear that click, you will know that the ScanBox is firmly in place.
The app will then walk you through the image/video taking process with clear audible directions. Once you have finished taking the diagnostic images and videos, you will be able to quickly and easily remove both the ScanBox and the cheek retractors. Dental Monitoring will then ensure that everything is sent over to your dentist for evaluation and assessment.
Any comments, tips, or guidance that we may have for you will be given to you through the app, as well. This can be something as simple as directions for more thorough brushing or detailed preventative tips for getting the most out of your orthodontic treatment.
You will have the opportunity to be directly involved with your treatment, which is extremely beneficial and a strong motivating factor for many people. You will also have the ability to view the progress of your treatment using the app’s intelligent timelapse feature. For many patients, being able to physically see how their dental health is progressing can help reinforce the importance of treatment.
Am I a Candidate for Dental Monitoring?

The mobile application is compatible with almost all modern smartphones – with a minimum of Android 5 (with flash) or iOS 10.
