Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening can give you a whiter and brighter smile while maintaining the health of your teeth.

Why is teeth whitening needed?

Over the years, teeth collect deposits and superficial stains which cause them to appear yellowish. Teeth also discolour with ageing as the enamel thins. This exposes the layer underneath called dentin which is naturally yellow.

Teeth whitening uses a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide to take your teeth from a yellow shade to eight shades whiter with just one visit to the dentist or by using a professional take-home kit.

In-chair treatment

The in-chair process involves the following steps:

  • 1We will prepare your mouth for the Zoom whitening process with a professional clean to remove any food particles from the surface of your teeth.
  • 2We will fit a retractor to protect your mouth and throat and hold your mouth open throughout the whitening process. We will also apply a protective coating to your gums.
  • 3Then, we will prepare and apply the required amount of teeth-whitening to your teeth.
  • 4We use blue LED light to activate the liquid gel and speed up the whitening process.
  • 5We repeat this process three times during the sitting, which takes around 45 minutes.
  • 6Once the desired shade is reached, we apply a post-treatment gel to protect your tooth enamel and reduce sensitivity.

Take-home kits

Teeth whitening take-home kits are safe, affordable and cause little to no sensitivity.

The first step is to book a consultation with a dentist, who will examine your teeth. Then your take-home teeth whitening kit will be prepared and clear instructions will be provided on how you need to whiten your teeth at home.

There are two types of home teeth-whitening kits – Day Whitening Kit and Night Whitening Kit. They have different formulas and your dentist will advise you on the correct usage.

Day Whitening Kit

The Day Whitening Kit is ideal if you prefer to wear the trays for short periods of 30-90 minutes, twice a day. It is available in different strengths and you can expect your teeth to look up to 6 shades whiter within two weeks.

Night Whitening Kit

The Night Whitening Kit is a preferred option if you would like to leave your trays on overnight while you sleep. You can also use them during the day but they will need to be kept on for 2-4 hours. You can expect your teeth to look up to six shades whiter within six weeks.

How it works

The procedures for using Day Whitening and Night Whitening Kits are the same, the only difference is when and for how long you will need to wear your trays.

With the Day Whitening Kits, you will need to wear your trays twice a day and can space the treatments out by doing this once in the morning and once in the evening.

With the Night Whitening Kit, it’s best to put your trays in before you go to bed and leave them until you wake up in the morning.

Here is the process you will need to follow:

Brush your teeth with regular toothpaste as normal.

Insert a drop of tooth-whitening gel into each impression of the trays.

Place the trays gently over your teeth.

Leave the trays on for the time prescribed by your dentist.

Remove the trays and wash them thoroughly with tap water.

Brush your teeth normally with toothpaste.
