Dental Implants | Traditional versus All-on-4

Every mouth is unique, as a set of fingerprints, so too your teeth, they are uniquely yours, and every dental case, any Dentist will tell you, is different and requires a custom dental plan. That is why it is essential to know what your options are before you have a treatment or procedure, especially in cosmetic dentistry.

When it comes to dental implants, at any age, there are different types to consider. One, due to the advancements in dental technology, has given many a new lease on life.

If an unsightly smile has knocked your confidence, or you are experiencing severe dental issues or want a fresh start, then All-on-4 implants are for you.

How is an All-on-4 implant different from traditional implants?

Unlike traditional dental implants, which entail one implanted titanium screw and one artificial tooth, All-on-4 is the same idea just multiplied by four. Still, instead of using implants for every missing tooth, a full arch of artificial teeth with four titanium dental implants are fitted.

Traditional dental implants:

Replacing 1 or 2 missing teeth by traditional dental implants has been a very successful dental treatment for many years and continues to be so. However, a healing process is necessary, as the implants are placed into the jawbone and function the same way as the tooth roots. If bone or gum grafting is required before the implant, this increases the overall treatment time by several months since additional healing is required.

All-on-4 dental implants:

The All-on-4 system is ideal for people who are missing most or all of their teeth or are currently wearing dentures. It’s a replacement for the entire upper and lower set of teeth with a bridge or (permanent) denture. This procedure works for patients with significant tooth loss or decay, and people with bone loss/sparse bone density. The term ‘All-on-4’ refers to all teeth being supported on four dental implants.

It will give you back the function and form of natural teeth and 90% chewing capacity. Interestingly, dentures allow for only 10% chewing capacity. Say goodbye to soft food, which limits your choices and can lead to poor nutrition.

The All-on-4 procedure is permanent and done in a day with very little post-recovery time required and will give you a look and feel of permanent, natural teeth immediately. Go ahead and bite into that apple!

You may still wonder if All-on-4’s are for you.
